Ben's Book Boutique is a small British operation making personalised picture books, one at a time.
I’m a single father, and I started making these books for my son. I wanted a story where he was the one in it, not someone else. Everything I could find in the shops did the personalisation badly: a name dropped into a template, nothing built around it. So I wrote and illustrated one properly, and friends started asking where I’d got it.
Every book is written and illustrated to work as a book first. The personalisation is not added at the end. The story is built around a child who has a name and a face, and printing waits until we know whose. That is why nothing is kept in stock, and why an order takes a few days: your copy is made after you order it.
Most people buying one of these are not buying it for themselves. They are picturing a particular child opening it. A book with that child’s own name inside reads differently to them, and they ask for it again.
